SYEN 5356 - Radio Frequency Techniques and Systems Three hours lecture. Three credit hours.
Analysis of electrostatic, magnetostatic, and dynamic fields using vector analysis. Coulomb’s Law, electric field intensity, electric flux density, Gauss’ Law. Energy and potential. Conductors, dielectrics, and capacitance. Poisson’s and Laplace’s equations. The steady magnetic field magnetic forces, materials, and inductance. Timevarying fields and Maxwell’s equations. Boundary conditions. The uniform plane wave. Plane waves at boundaries and in dispersive media. Transmission lines and antenna fundamentals. Examples are taken from the field of wireless communications.
Prerequisites: SYEN 2315, MATH 3322, and PHYS 2322.
