Professional Responsibility - LAWW 62313

Credits Hours: 3

In this course, we will study the law that governs lawyers and the legal profession. We will examine the Model Rules and the Restatement, along with other statutory and common law governing lawyers, the civil law of legal malpractice, criminal liability, and lawyer disciplinary decisions. Class discussions will focus on various ethical decisions lawyers confront in their practices and how the law governing lawyers impacts those decisions. We will also consider the roles of lawyers in our society and the ethical and moral dimensions of those roles. As we study these rules and concepts, this course will provide you with the opportunity to develop core lawyering competencies of (1) identifying and assessing issues relating to the law governing lawyers and ethical decisions; and (2) engaging in effective problem solving about those issues. (Formerly LAWB 6321)
