Surveys First Amendment law concerning freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the establishment clause, and the free exercise clause. Topics addressed in the areas of speech and press include fighting words, threats, defamation, commercial speech, obscenity, hate speech regulation of public fora, campaign speech, the right to gather news, and media regulation. Topics addressing in the area of religion include anti-coercion, non-endorsement, required accommodations and permissible accommodations.
