Examines the legal systems of other countries with particular emphasis on the administration of criminal justice, the administration of civil justice, and the education and regulation of the legal profession. The course includes an introduction to civil law and a survey of the ways that Western legal traditions have fared in colonial and post-colonial developing countries and the ways in which Western systems have influenced and been influenced by customary law and traditions. The course satisfies the policy and perspectives requirement, and the paper can satisfy the upper-level writing requirement. (Formerly LAW 6258)
