The Certificate of Proficiency (CP) in Software Engineering has been developed by the Departments of Computer and Information Science in collaboration with industry advisors to address the region’s increasing demand for skilled software developers.

The program is intended for a wide range of students, including current University of Arkansas at Little Rock undergraduates, professionals seeking to advance their technical skills, and community college students who may transfer into a four-year program. As organizations in fields such as finance, healthcare, logistics, and education continue to expand their reliance on software solutions, the need for professionals who possess strong competencies in software development and web engineering continues to grow.

The certificate provides a focused foundation in front-end web technologies, user interface and user experience design, and introductory JavaScript development. Students who complete the program will acquire the ability to design, implement, and deploy accessible and responsive websites while also developing collaborative and version-control skills that are essential in professional practice.

Completion of the Certificate of Proficiency prepares students for immediate employment opportunities and provides a pathway into the stackable Technical Certificate in Software Engineering, which includes additional coursework in server-side development, DevSecOps, and full-stack project experience.

General (15 credit hours)

Five courses, including coursework in Web Technologies, UI/UX Fundamentals, and JavaScript Development, supported by required computing and mathematics foundations.
