First-Year Colloquium (0-3 hours)
Required of full-time freshmen entering college for the first time and transfer students with less than 12 hours of credit. TCED 1100 is recommended. Second Language Proficiency
(none required) Concentration Courses (36 hours)
Candidates must select one content area and complete all required courses. Concentration courses suggested are based on required Praxis content knowledge examinations and must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Social Studies Concentration (24 total hours)
(15 credit hours not from Core) Language Arts Concentration (21 total hours)
* NOTE: These courses apply toward the concentration and major course hour requirements. (15 credit hours not from Core.) Math Concentration (24 total hours)
(18 credit hours not from Core.) Science Concentration (23 total hours)
(15 credit hours not from Core.) Major (59 hours)
Formal admission to the Middle Childhood Education program is required to enroll in the following courses: Spring Block I (17 hours)
Spring Block II (15 hours)
Note
* Field Experience and Internship courses will consist of student observation and teaching in a public school classroom. ** These courses apply toward both the concentration and major course hour requirements. Concentration methods courses will depend on concentration areas selected: HIST 49763 (Social Studies), TCED 4300 (Language Arts), MATH 38363 (Math), IGSC 4401 (Science) Unrestricted General Electives
Students may take general elective courses to fulfill any remaining hours to reach the 120 minimum total hours, the 45 hours of upper-level courses (3000-4000 level), or the 30 hours in residence. |
