POLS 4331 - International Organizations Three credit hours.
This course will explore the conception and modern functions of many International Organizations, and the international and domestic political forces that impact their effectiveness. We will study major governmental Ios, including the IMF, NATO, the UN, and the League of Arab States, as well as non-governmental Ios like Doctors without Borders and Amnesty International. In particular, the course will focus on the role of Ios in issues of war and peace, human rights, and development. Students will conduct research on and participate in International Organization “models” and will gain knowledge about the internal and procedural workings of Ios and the major issues the address.
