Was HIST 5329. In this class we will explore the intersection of empires and cultures in world history between the mid-nineteenth century and the start of the First World War. We will read texts that describe the cultural encounter between imperial regimes and colonial cultures. These readings by both indigenous and European authors will let us ask questions and find answers to the issues surrounding the clash between empires and cultures in the late nineteenth century.
