GEOG 52543 - (was 5325) Map Design & Web Mapping Three credit hours.
Was GEOG 5325. Introduces the map as a complex and interdisciplinary infographic. Students are taught the art and science of map design, i.e., cartography. Subtopics include principles of infographic design, map anatomy, layout, color theory, and typography. The role of maps as a storytelling device is emphasized, and both print and web-based map output are produced. Students gain hands-on experience in creating maps using GIS platforms (ArcGIS Desktop, QGIS), web mapping tools (Tableau, Google Sites, ESRI Story Maps, Google My Maps), and graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator). Fully online.
Prerequisites: GEOG/ERSC 42144 (was GEOG/ERSC 4421) and instructor consent.
