ARHS 52233 - (was ARHA 5322) Arts of Africa Three credit hours.
Was ARHA 5322. Designed to introduce students to the arts of sub-Saharan Africa. In readings and class lectures, we will examine the function, materials, and aesthetics of the art and architecture in this region, and discuss how they reflect the social, religious, political, and economic situations of the people who made them. We will also grapple with issues of art markets, colonization, and museum display. Dual listed in the Undergraduate Catalog as ARHS 42233 (was ARHA 4322).
