Three credit hours.

Was CRJU 3304. Examines the relationship between the police and the community from several different perspectives. Starts with an introduction to the history, practices, and issues related to the law enforcement function in our society, followed by an overview of police functions and responsibilities at the local, state, and federal levels. Police operations will be examined relative to effectiveness in crime control, delivery of services, and maintenance of order. We will review contemporary policy issues, and programs and strategies. Finally, we will examine existing programs, problems, potential directions, and successes and failures in policing. Primary emphasis will be placed on community policing and its impact on policing in the 21st century.
