INTR 45803 - (was 4358) Interpreting for Persons who are Deaf-Blind


Three credit hours.

Was INTR 4358. Students will study the major causes of deafblindness and the impact of deafblindness on communication, mobility, and lifestyle. Emphasis is on learning and practicing the various modes of communication used by persons who are deafblind for interpreters and intervenors. Students will become familiar with human guide techniques and the aids and devices available to persons who are deafblind. Tactile forms of communication will be emphasized during role-play situations. A service-learning component will provide the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and skills in real-life situations while meeting community needs. Reflective discussion and writing are emphasized throughout the course.

Prerequisites: INTR 36403 , INTR 36603 , QAST I/I or equivalent.
