THTR 46433 - (was THEA 4364) Contemporary Theatre

Three credit hours.

Was THEA 4364. This course explores contemporary (ca. 1975 - present) theatrical practice, with an emphasis on the role of professional, non-profit theatre companies in the U.S. Plays are read and analyzed, but equal emphasis is placed on the production trajectory for each play and the process of development; from the writing of a script, workshops, original production (design, direction, etc.), critical reception, publication, and subsequent distribution (tours, leasing of performance rights, adaptations into other media, revivals, etc.).

Prerequisites: Junior or Senior standing or permission of instructor.
