GEOG 42543 - (was 4325) Map Design and Web Mapping Three credit hours.
Was GEOG 4325. Introduces the map as a complex and interdisciplinary infographic. Students are taught the art and science of map design, i.e. cartography. Sub-topics include principles of infographic design, map anatomy, layout, color theory, and typography. The role of maps as story-telling devices are emphasized and both print and web-based map output are produced. Students gain hands-on experience in the production of maps using GIS platforms (ArcGIS Desktop, QGIS), web mapping tools (Tableau, Google Sites, ESRI Story Maps, Google My Maps), and graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator). Fully online course. Dual listed in the Graduate Catalog as GEOG 52543 (was GEOG 5325).
Prerequisites: GEOG 42144 /GEOL 42104 or consent of instructor.
