ARHS 42233 - (was ARHA 4322) Arts of Africa Three credit hours.
Was ARHA 4322. This course is designed to introduce students to the arts of sub-Saharan Africa. In readings and class lectures, we will examine the function, materials, and aesthetics of the art and architecture of this part of the world and will discuss how they reflect the social, religious, political, and economic situations of the people who made them. We will also grapple with the issue of art markets, colonization, and museum display. Dual listed in the Graduate Catalog as ARHS 52233 (was ARHA 5322)
