NURS 1420 - Mental Health Nursing


Four (two theory, two lab) credit hours.

Builds on NURS 1310  and NURS 1320  or NURS 1330   and NURS 1130  with a focus on mental health/illness across the lifespan and communication with patients, families, and the health care team, including principles of conflict management. Exemplars include psychosocial assessment in acute and chronic mental illness, symptom management, and patient advocacy. Students continue to develop nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the competencies of safety, quality improvement, and informatics through learning experiences in the classroom, and acute care/community mental health facilities.   Traditional option: One-half semester; Transition option: Summer term.

Prerequisites: NURS 1310  and NURS 1320 , or NURS 1130  and NURS 1330 , and BIOL 24104  or BIOL 23394 .
